I’m sticking my foot in it. I don’t care. I don’t get political on Facebook because I have some very right-wing-flappy Republican friends who I love dearly and will not unfriend because I disagree with their views... I usually just nod and smile when they say stupid shit but I guess the point of being a true advocate for Black Lives Matter means I can’t stay silent anymore. 

I must say, I have received the Candace Owens video in DMs many times now... you know, the one where she denounces her support for George Floyd? I’m going to address it because I think the white people who sent it to me perhaps thought I’d be happy about this information that a black woman isn’t pro- BLM and justice for George Floyd and that maybe us white people would “finally” catch a break, huh? I even saw a relative “heart” the video and I’m disappointed, frankly. 

I appreciate you sharing her propaganda with me. My hope is that folks who see her material question it and seek the sources of those stats she’s hyperbolizing.

If you read of her early career, she was anti-conservative, anti-Republican, and anti-Trump. You guys: She follows the money. She’s just as much a despicable example of her race as the ones she criticizes.

I get it: you don’t get it. Rhetoric isn’t taught in schools the way it used to be taught, if at all. People aren’t aware of how the information they’re consuming is shaped. They just consume it like a can of Pringle’s. Ya’ll see a black woman who is against the BLM movement and everyone nods and feels better about themselves. 

I listened when she stated she didn’t want a former criminal being the face of the black lives matter movement. I disagree. An “upstanding black man” with his neck under the knee of a white cop doesn’t hold more weight than a father with a criminal past who served his time for his crimes. He spoke about peace and love and preached against violence. How can she say not all cops are shit and some are just jerks for power tripping because they’re human and humans can be shitty...but can be so critical of someone who had a criminal past and answered to those crimes? Because he did drugs? 

She didn’t answer to ‘why’ people resort to criminal behaviors. Speaking of people being shit for doing drugs...The same “criminals” who sold weed to earn a living and to eat when it was illegal are still in jail while marijuana has now become ‘essential’ for all the aches and pains of the middle aged white dude’s she’s sipping Bellinis with. 

Candace states that we can avoid police brutality by simply avoiding criminal behavior. I think we know that’s bullshit, too. She’s married to a white, British lord and loving a life of privilege...the same kind she’s denying others of using as bias... and she’s addressing the poor economic classes in the cloak of being a black woman, so she is an authority? To my black friends- please tell me she isn’t speaking for all black people? 

Speaking of his final crime-punishable by death... when Silas and I lived in New York, we used a counterfeit $5. We had no idea it wasn’t real because it was given to us as change from a Chinese restaurant. The next cashier we met to buy some waters from looked at it and thought it seemed fishy. Money started to change in appearance with new holograms and weird pictures and honestly, in the heat of that summer bike ride, neither of us even paused to question it. (We seldom used cash at all.) The cashier swiped it with a marker and said “not real” and handed it back and then...crazy story: I used my credit card instead and we all lived to tell the fucking tale.

Candace made a brand for herself slinging uninformed, bigoted malarkey. She gets paid to make white folks feel like they’re off the hook.
